DNC Convention 2012: “Thus do we praise you for the gift of life. Grant us to defend it. Life, without which no other rights are secure. We ask your benediction on those waiting to be born, that they may be welcomed and protected.” From the prayer by Cardinal Timothy Dolan
January 2014: Cardinal Tim Dolan celebrated what was billed as a “pro-life Mass” in New York.

For George Hudes, of the Hawaii chapter of Friends of SABEEL, the protest was not about being anti-Israel but about justice and peace.
“Wherever the dignity of human life . . . is threatened,” people of faith have a “sacred responsibility,” he said, to “speak up” and “come to the assistance” of those whose civil rights are endangered, most especially “the innocent baby in the womb.”

Musa Shafi, at two months, the youngest protester at the demonstration in Honolulu. More than a hundred people gathered with signs at the corner of Ala Moana and Atkinson Boulevard the afternoon of July 15 joining others in cities around the globe to call for an end to the very asymmetrical war in Gaza.
June 2014: Archbishop Joseph Kurtz welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby as an affirmation of “justice” and “respect for human life.”
July 2014: As a Catholic in the United States watching, as others are, the violence unfolding in Gaza, I wait to hear the United States Bishops raise their voices on behalf of those already born with at least the same fervor with which they have spoken out to defend those “waiting to be born.” Will they seek the Sunday talk shows and other guest appearances to urge an end to the killing? The man from Galilee would expect it. And it would be pro-life.
Another demonstration is planned for Tuesday June 22 from 4 -6 p.m. at the same location in Honolulu: the corner of Atkinson and Ala Moana Boulevard.

Rev. Barbara Grace Ripple(far left), a Methodist minister, stands with multi-generational protesters at the July 15, Honolulu demonstration. Ripple was Superintendent of the United Methodist Churches on Hawaii, Guam and Saipan from 1998-2004. She traveled to Israel and the Palestinian West Bank, including the cities of Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Hebron, in Jan., 2006 and also Nov., 2013. She is a member of Friends of Sabeel Hawaii, the Holy Land Task Force of the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church, and The Interfaith Alliance-Hawaii (TIAH).
Excellent, Dawn, keep pushing the buttons!

Hi, Dawn … Hope everything is well with you!
Upon reading your religious articles on Catholic culture and community, I’ve got across with a chilling statistics gathered by a US authority.
What I read is as follows:
July 11, 2014
Declines in Donations Outweigh Direct Costs of Catholic Priest Scandals
Priest sexual-abuse scandals have cost the U.S. Catholic church a total of about $3 billion in legal fees, settlements, and other direct costs since the 1980s, but the impact of parishionersâ declining charitable contributions has been an order of magnitude larger, say Nicolas L. Bottan of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Ricardo Perez-Truglia of Harvard. A parish-by-parish analysis shows that the scandals caused contributions to the church to decline by an estimated average of $2.36 billion per year. From 1950â2009, allegations of abuse were lodged against 5,768 priests, or 5.3% of all priests active in the U.S., the researchers say.

One thing I’d like to suggest you to write on is “how to make principles heard and done by public figures,” meaning that a healthy society thrives on the common goods, respectful deeds and mutual considerations. Perspectives from Catholicism may work good, and you may take the abovementioned stats as examples when public leaders stopped short of carrying our their duties.
Sorry for not being more clear in my suggestion, but you are my Queen!
Have a nice day!
