When there is no more middle,
We begin to teeter
On the edge.
When there is no more middle
We shake and tremble as if
We’re on a ledge.
When there is no more middle,
And the panic settles,
Perhaps it’s time to pledge
Again our allegiance
To things we once knew well
But had spurned. To our peril.
And thus we begin
To close the chasm,
And once again we fill
The middle.
