This is a time to “wash our eyes” said moderator Maya Soetoro. And so we did. I was honored to be on a panel with Dean Jonathan Osorio and Rev. David Turner on Friday September 10, 2021, in this time of loss to gather our thoughts and our energies to take a fresh look at our faiths and consider our future. Your thoughts as you listen to this conversation are most welcome. There is much we–the people in the pews as much as clergy–need to do to build the beloved community. To embark on really new beginnings. I am grateful to call Hawaiʻi home. I am deeply mindful of the privilege of being welcomed into this wonderful community. I look forward to continue doing my small part by working with those who are addressing the many hurts that linger from the illegal annexation of the Hawaiian kingdom and the deposing of beloved Queen Lili’uokalani who chose the safety of her people over her rightful place on the throne. Your presentation was magnificent! It is dreadful shame that the Catholic Church would deny women the pulpit and Christians faith based upon modern knowledge and experience, a wisdom of all the ages (including the Hubble Space Telescope), rather than ancient superstitions. I was perfectly correct in my previous guesstimate that your words were to be treasured. I’m glad they were preserved for me to actually experience.
